The information sounds like a bad joke. Yet it is all that is most real. Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores won a regional election in Peru. With a total of 34.54% of the votes, or 229 votes, the man was elected mayor of the district of Queropalca, located in the province of Lauricocha.
Obviously, with such a meaningful name, his election created a buzz on social networks. The resemblance with the two dictators ends there. Indeed, Hitler Mussolini Simeón Flores does not seem to share the same political ideas. He is a member of Ahora Nación, a center-left and social democratic party.
“Our political party was founded with the aim of promoting social welfare and justice in Peru. We believe in active citizen participation and transparency in public administration. Our values are integrity, fairness and respect for human rights,” we can read on the website of the Peruvian political party founded in 2023.
One question remains: why does the local politician have this name? In Peru, it is not uncommon for parents to give their children the names of foreign or controversial historical figures, for various reasons ranging from the search for an original sound to ignorance of history.
Already in 2018, a certain Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez won a municipal election in the country. He had faced… Lennin, a name which inevitably recalls that of the former communist leader Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, known as Lenin.
A similar situation took place in Namibia in 2020. A certain Adolf Hitler was elected administrator of a district of the country.
